  Join Regions/Notes    ⌘J    ⌘:four:

Combine separate regions/notes into a single region. With audio regions, if the joined region is “contiguous” in the original audio the region is simply extended to include those selected. If there are gaps (or regions from different audio files are selected) a new audio file will be created for the joined region.

MIDI notes that are joined simply create a single note that has a duration of the sum of the durations of the joined notestime from the start of the first note to the end of the furthest away note.

Join regions in the Tracks area — Logic Pro X

You can join untransposed audio regions, and join MIDI regions. Regions from audio Apple Loops, and audio regions that have been transposed, can’t be joined.

  Nudge Region/Event Length Left by SMPTE Frame

I was looking for this command (in milliseconds) the other day and couldn’t find it. Sometimes we need to have the length adjusted just a tiny bit. It would be very nice if there was a way to lengthen/shorten a region from the beginning as opposed to the end.

Resize regions in the Tracks area — Logic Pro X

You can shorten both audio and MIDI regions so that only part of the region plays. You can lengthen MIDI regions to add silence to the beginning or end of the region. In addition, you can resize the common edge of two adjacent regions to control the transition between them and remove overlaps.

  Toggle Automation Quick Access    ⌃⌥⌘A

This is handy. When Automation Quick Access is “on” I can use the selected controller (buttons on my nanoKEY) to adjust selected automation. Nice to know.

Write track automation with external controllers — Logic Pro X

The Automation Quick Access (AQA) feature makes track automation extremely fast and simple if you only have one hardware MIDI controller available—one fader on your MIDI keyboard, or just the modulation wheel, for example. You can use this single hardware controller to automate the currently active automation parameter of the selected track in the main window.

Ensemble effect — Logic Pro X

Ensemble can add richness and movement to sounds, particularly when you use a high number of voices. It is useful for thickening parts, but you can also use it for strong pitch variations between voices, resulting in a detuned quality to processed material. Ensemble combines up to eight chorus effects. Two standard LFOs and one random LFO enable you to create complex modulations. The graphic display represents the modulation rate and intensity of all LFOs and lets you directly adjust waveforms.

I was discussing forcing low-end into mono, centered in a mix. Sometimes it works.

I decided to look at modulation effects and noticed ‘Ensemble’. This thing is outstanding. Really wakes things up. I need to do a deep dive into the built-in effects that Logic provides. My little homework MIDI song provides a great test bed. The bass really gets entertaining.
