  Recall Screenset 7 7

I haven’t gotten up to seven yet. One option is to use screenset 9 for documenting the project. Such a useful thing.

The Logic Pro X demo projects have numerous examples of screensets to think about. I have “tracks only” in position one, tracks and mixer panel in position two, mixer and transport in position three, musical score in position four (maybe a phrase in a tune 😉 )

You position windows in a layout that suits the way you work. This layout of various windows, including their display size, zoom levels, position, and other settings, is called a screenset. Once defined, you can save, and freely switch between different screensets, much as you might between different computer displays.

Store Channel Strip Configuration as User Default

In Logic Pro X version 10.4 the ability to save mixer channel strip configurations was added. There is a tool menu in the configuration dialog that enables the saving of settings as a default.

Some times I want a very detailed channel strip, other times not. I keep forgetting that the channel strip components that are visible are “attached” to a screenset. I can have different components visible in each. This is quite a nice feature.

That is so weird. I opened Safari and clicked on my “pinned” tab that is the Logic Pro X help documentation. The page that is showing is “Create, recall, and switch screensets” — exactly what I wanted.

Normally I don’t spend a lot of time on each iteration of a command that has ten to thirty variations simply by number, but screensets are worth repeating — all 99 times if necessary.

I have 4 screensets that are in my templates — 1, 2, 3, and 9. Nine is where I have the project notepad open and *should* be making sure I document things.

My workflow should be to get a screen arranged (zoom, auxiliary windows, etc.) and duplicate it, name it, and lock it. That way I might get into the practice of not having to re-discover how to size things properly for my environment. This is also probably very important advice for working on laptop screens.

Someday I will learn what “and other settings” (see quote) includes. It used to be “and so on.” Odd form of documentation.

I need to work with screensets a whole lot more. I have a few, but I rarely switch with any frequency.

I should create an “outline” of mixing a song using screensets to accommodate each of the phases. Step through the screensets, and when I get through the steps save the project, make a new alternative, and proceed.

There might be some benefit to using a MIDI region to switch the display to an appropriate screenset during playback — like open Marker list, Event list, and arrange window.

Think of Screensets as workspaces. You can display windows, position them, zoom tracks as needed for a part of a workflow and save everything in place.

Keep reiterating. Use screensets. Come to depend on them.
