  Delete Unused Groups

This command is used with the EXS24 sampler. Another casualty of the slashing of documentation in the change from Logic Pro 9 to Logic Pro X.

Wildly unfortunate — if you use the command-/ keypress to get further help on the command (as suggested in the Key Commands window) you get directed to the “Groups” section of the help system. Mixer Groups are definitely not what is going on here. Miles away. Mis-direction.

Choose Group > Delete Unused Groups in the Instrument Editor.

There are two views in the Instrument Editor window: Zones and Groups.

  New Instrument

Creates a new instrument.

What I know about EXS24 is that it is the “basic” sampler/sample player (24-bit) that provides almost all of the Logic built-in instruments.

What I read most from people who use EXS24 is that the interface needs to be changed to be more “modern”. Personally, if I compare it to the samplers I first knew about the EXS24 is just fine. Complex, of course, but that’s the tool.

The “new” sample tool for Logic is ‘Alchemy’ (Camel Audio lives!).

I haven’t used a sampler other than to play back the samples. At some point I might delve into sampling. Certainly having a 24-bit sampler with virtually infinite storage changes the game from the samplers from the 1980s and 1990s.

Graphically edit EXS24 mkII zones and groups — Logic Pro X

You are not limited to editing zones and groups in the Parameters area. You can also graphically edit a number of zone and group parameters in the Zones/Groups Display area above the keyboard. If you want to edit the audio file of a zone, see Edit samples in the Logic Pro X Audio File Editor.

This is a tool that I use all the time, the software instruments, but probably will never dive into to create my own instrument. Complex and challenging. I assume that the limited user interfaces on early samplers made it “easier” to work with once having learned the basics. Modern sampler instruments are far more complex.
